Points of historical or cultural interest

TRASTEVERE

As its name suggests, this typical and fascinating quarter is placed beyond the Tiber and close walking distance to the Vatican. No one can resist such a charm while walking through its alleys and tiny streets. Trastevere is an essential stop-over for any tourist visiting the Eternal City. It is the heart of both the Roman day- and nightlife, as it's full of typical restaurants, literary cafés and small artisan workshops. Several artists from all over the world couldn't help visiting this ancient quarter.

GIANICOLO (English "Janiculum")

The Gianicolo hill is a few steps from the San Pietro quarter. It is known as one of the most enchanting places in Rome for its breathtaking view over the roofs of the Capital. Other sights include Bramante's Tempietto, the Orto Botanico (Botanical garden) and Villa Doria Pamphilj, the perfect stage for a relax day.

CASTEL SANT'ANGELO (English "Castle of the Holy Angel")

Castel Sant'Angelo was built around 123 B.C. near St. Peter's Basilica and became better known as the Mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian. It is linked to the Vatican City through a long covered fortified corridor that offers the viewer a strong visual impact. In order to enjoy its beauty the best, the Sant'Angelo Bridge must be crossed; the wonderful Angelic Statues, made by Bernini's scholars according to his directions, can be contemplated all along its sides.
